Workspaces

A workspace is your team's home in Amdahl. It holds your data, your settings, and the people you work with.

What a workspace is

Everything in Amdahl lives inside a workspace: your connected data, your shared notes, your settings, and your teammates. Most teams need only one. You can belong to more than one at a time and switch between them whenever you like.

People

People in this workspace

The section you pick on the left opens here. Move between General, People, Context, Developer, and Danger to manage every part of your workspace.

The sidebar on the left is how you move around. All the sections, General, People, Context, Developer, and Danger, sit together under a Settings heading you can fold open or closed; Danger is the last one in the group and is tinted to stand out. Use the workspace chip at the bottom of the rail to switch between the workspaces you belong to, join one your email domain gives you access to, or, when your team has it enabled, create a new one.

Roles

Everyone in a workspace has one of three roles. Your role decides what you can change.

  • Owner. The person who runs the workspace. Owners can do everything an admin can, and only an owner can delete the workspace or hand it to someone else. Each workspace has exactly one owner.
  • Admin. Manages the workspace day to day: adds and removes people, sets roles, and edits settings like the name, avatar, shared context, and which email domains can join.
  • Member. Uses the workspace. Members can work with the data and content but do not change who is on the team or the workspace settings.

How you get in

There are three ways into a workspace, and membership lasts once you are in.

  • Join by your email domain. If your company's workspace has domain self-join turned on, any workspace your verified email domain matches is yours to join, one click from a picker right after you sign in, or from the workspace switcher. See Create or join a workspace.
  • Get added by an admin. An admin enters your email in the workspace's People settings and you are in. New to Amdahl? The same step sets up your account and emails you a setup link.
  • Create your own. When your team has creation enabled, name a new workspace and you become its owner.

Joining is durable: once you are a member, you stay one until you leave or an admin removes you. There is no invitation to accept, the three paths above are the only ways in.
