AEO Health Report
Question it answers: When someone asks an AI assistant a category question, how do they describe us vs. competitors? Are we cited, recommended, or invisible?
Cadence: Weekly
GTM owner: PMM
Data sources
Internal: Competitor and category names from deal_qualification.competition — used to build the probe question set. Positioning claims from KB — used to check whether the AI reflects our framing or a competitor's.
External: external_search { action: search } — a set of fixed probe questions run weekly, designed to trigger AI answer engine responses for category-level queries (e.g., "what's the best revenue intelligence platform?", "how do teams use AI for sales calls?", "alternatives to [competitor]"). Results capture which sources are cited, what the synthesized answer says, and who is named or recommended.
Living Document
A weekly report tracking how AI answer engines describe the category and players over time. Uniquely, this is a time-series asset — the delta between weeks is often more interesting than any single week. Sections:
- Probe questions this week — the fixed set of category questions that were run
- Brand presence — were we named, recommended, or cited in any AI answer? In what context?
- Competitor presence — which competitors appear in AI answers? How are they framed?
- Source citation — which domains and publications are being cited as evidence by AI engines? (signals what content to own)
- Category framing — how is the AI defining our category this week? Is it the framing we want?
- Delta from last week — what changed: new citations, competitor movement, category framing shifts
- AEO opportunity — specific gaps where a piece of content or a cited source could shift the answer in our favor
This document's power compounds over time. Older versions are retained so the trend is visible quarter over quarter.
Page
A live AEO monitoring view. Because the data comes from weekly blueprint runs stored to KB, the page reads the structured results of those runs.
Stats row:
- Brand mention rate across probe questions (this week)
- Competitor mention rate (combined)
- Number of unique sources cited across answers
Line chart: Brand mention rate over time (week by week) — the core "are we improving?" signal.
Bar chart: Competitor mention frequency this week — ranked, shows competitive AEO landscape.
Table — Probe question results: One row per question — the question, whether we were named (Y/N), competitors named, sources cited, answer summary. Lets PMM triage which queries need content work.
Bar chart: Citation source domains ranked by frequency — shows which publications and sites are feeding AI answers in our category. High-priority targets for PR, guest posts, and owned content.
